Technesis Print Tracking
Print tracking is the heart of what Technesis software does. Our company got started with print tracking and as the technology matured, so did our products. Currently, print tracking core is quite mature, and in its 5th generation. We offer the most comprehensive print tracking solution for organizations today, including:
- Passive print tracking (no interruptions) at the print server and workstation levels
- Print tracking that applies to networked printers, print servers, local and USB printers, and printing to a file
- Page by page color analysis. If a user prints 5 pages, and 3 are in color, Technesis software counts 3 color and 2 monochrome.
- Active print tracking for workstations, including:
- Blling popup for accounting
- Print rules that creates customized messages for users so they know how to use the devices more efficiently.
Passive print tracking
Passive print tracking is used for print assessments or to collect information profiling printer usage. Technesis collects dozens of statistics when every print is made, including:

The statistics are consolidated and summarized as part of a print assessment report.
Technesis SmartPrint Server
Technesis’ enhanced print tracking architecture is available for server based printing. Technesis SmartPrint Server logs all activity through shared Windows Print Server queues. Technesis SmartPrint Server is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 Print Servers.
Technesis SmartPrint Client
Technesis Client is a small footprint tracking agent that passively runs on each workstation. It monitors all printing, like a local printer, a USB printer, networked printer, print queue or large format printer. Technesis client works in together with Techensis SmartPrint Server and avoids double tracking if both components are installed in the same print tracking environment. Technesis SmartPrint Client is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP workstations.
Technesis SmartPrint Client is also compatible with workstations using MAC OSX and various Linux distributions.
Rules based messaging
Technesis print tracking is switched from passive to active with rules based messaging. Rules are setup to inform users of their printing options. Rules are either advisory where the users have the option to cancel or continue, or compulsory, where the job is cancelled. Print policies are setup centrally in Technesis Console and rules are cascaded to Technesis SmartPrint Client + Technesis Popup installed on each workstation.
Print rules are stored locally on each workstation, so print management is governed without contact to the server.
The rules are applied before the print job leaves the workstation. When a rule is set to cancel a print job, or if the user cancels printing, that print job does not make it to the printer.
Technesis SmartPrint Client + Popup
Technesis Client includes a Popup component for messaging and billing. When a print is made, Technesis client analyzes the print in the passive print tracking manner, and then checks the rules and conditions. When a rule is applied, Technesis Popup flashes a message box to the end user. Technesis Client + Popup is compatible with Windows 2000 and Windows XP workstations.
